New Balance delivers two made in the UK 1500 models that add some pop. One mixes premium nubuck, suede, smooth leather, and mesh on the upper with a purple mudguard, a bright blue midfoot, and multi-colored stitching on the heel and tongue logos over a white ENCAP midsole. A second offering tones it down a bit, moving the purple to the lining and a tiny hit on the midsole and keeping the multi-colored embroidery on an otherwise black and white upper.

After skyrocketing in the sock business with pairs in over 40 countries, California’s STANCE enters the footwear world with this collaboration with New Balance for a 997 and a 1978. The 997 appears in a palette of tan, coral, and blues with a band of marbled teal, meant to resemble Boston’s residential neighborhoods. Perforated suede, nubuck, smooth leather, and snakeskin-patterned leather trade places on the upper with a co-branded footbed featuring the coordinates of both company’s headquarters. The 1978 has a colorway based on the coastline of San Clemente, CA with the light shade of blue representing the sea and the beige calling sand to mind. A clean white Vibram outsole finishes off the lightweight 1978. Each pair comes with its own custom pair of STANCE socks and a custom box as well.

Two made in the USA New Balance classics arrived, with the M996 which was first produced in the US in 1987. This model arrives 30 years later in a muted suede and mesh upper and looks as fresh as the day they arrived. The M1300 arrived in 1985 with a $130 price tag, which was among the priciest running shoes ever seen at the time and has since become a collector favorite.
